Date What September 2002 Nominations close 15 September. Complete initial screening. Begin telephone interviews. October 2002 Complete telephone interviews, begin reference and background checks. November 2002 Begin onsite visits to nominees. Third screening begins, reference and background checks continue. January 2003 Meetings with shortlisted nominees. On 23 January names are released; at-large nomination period begins. 22 February 2003 Deadline for at-large nominations. March 2003 Presentation of candidates. 3 May 2003 Special convention to elect the next bishop. 18 October 2003 Consecration of the Eleventh Bishop of New Jersey.
