visit For good formal liturgy in a warm, friendly environment.
Our 8 a.m. service is traditional, with music and a sermon. Our 8:45
is a contemporary service: we welcome children and encourage response
to the homily! Our 10:30 service has a full cast of acolytes, torch
bearers, deacons, priests, and choir. Join us on Sunday and introduce
yourself to the ushers! Accomplishment you’re proud of Trinity Episcopal Academy, 35 years old and the only Episcopal elementary school in the diocese, had low enrollment, lack of funds, and no real leadership. In late 2001 the Vestry required by 1 May that we enroll 40 students, raise funds to cover income shortfall, and develop a plan to enable inner-city children to receive scholarships. We did it! Cathedral parishioners responded with enthusiasm and money, as did parishes. We raised $89,000, enrolled 54 students, and developed a new vision for the school! Key event in history In 1996 the dean resigned suddenly, and shockwaves were felt as headlines of lawsuits hit the streets. For the next five years the cathedral faced its challenges alone, as the diocese, embroiled in growing controversy, couldn’t give adequate support. But the lay leadership shone, starting renovations and beginning an enthusiastic but premature search for a new dean. In November 2000, I became the first fulltime priest to serve the cathedral since 1996. Greatest challenge To thrive as a cathedral, as the bishop’s seat, and a parish in our own right. With 40,000 square feet to maintain, we’ve felt a cathedral in size only, not supported as the central church of the diocese. Theme hymn “Lift High the Cross.” We really love processions! |
