A closer look: diocesan office

Our diocesan office has been in Trenton since the late 1940s, at 808 West Street, in a lovely early twentieth-century residence. Originally the wealthy owner had a separate building constructed to house a Olympic-size swimming pool—oh, call it a natatorium, he probably did—and accompanying lounge area, complete with eight-foot-high fireplace and inlaid tile. (Rumor has it that the lounge also served as a gentlemen’s casino.)

When the diocese was deeded the property, the swimming pool was filled in, the floor covered over, and the building now houses two conference rooms, offices, mailing equipment, storage areas, and our archives.

In the main house, eleven hard-working staff members oversee everything from deployment, benefits and insurance, and correspondence to day-to-day finances, databases, and mail management.

Just across the street from the diocesan office is Trinity Cathedral.
