A closer look: convocations
The golden dome of the State House in Trenton.
The dome of the State House, Trenton

Historically the diocese has been mapped into convocations. Each has an elected lay or clergy dean. The eight convocations are:

Convocation Area covered
Atlantic Cape May county, parts of Atlantic and Ocean counties
Burlington Most of Burlington county
Camden Camden county, parts of Burlington and Atlantic counties
Monmouth Monmouth county, part of Ocean county
Northern Middlesex county, part of Union county
Trenton Mercer county, part of Hunterdon county
Watchung Somerset county, parts of Hunterdon and Union counties
Woodbury Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland counties

We're convinced that the role of convocations could be developed further, providing a stronger sense of unity in this enormous diocese.
