*Burlington** **County** Education for Ministry Seminar seeks new
members* --Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education
for Ministry (EfM) program provides people with the education to carry
out that ministry and to discover how to respond to the call to
Christian service. Over a four-year period (participants register for
one year at a time), EFM seminar members study Old Testament, New
Testament, Church History, Theology, Liturgy and Ethics. A highlight of
EFM is its stress on teaching various methods of theological reflection.
Each meeting also includes group worship and sharing. EFM is offered
weekly at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1 Hartford Rd., Medford, on
Tuesday evenings, September -- May. We are a multi-year group seeking
new seminar members at all levels, especially first-year. If you or one
or more of your parishioners are interested in learning more about EFM,
please plan to attend the informational meeting which will be held in
St. Peter's Parish Hall on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:45 p.m. and/or contact

DATE: June 10, 2008
Dear friends,
We are delighted to share the news that the Rev. Peter French has
accepted a call from the Episcopal Church at Princeton and the Procter
Foundation to become ECP's next chaplain. Peter is currently Associate
Rector at Grace Church, Hinsdale, Illinois, in the Diocese of Chicago.
He served from 2003-2006 as chaplain of Trinity College of the
University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia. Peter was ordained
priest in 1999 in the Diocese of Wangaratta. He holds a B.A. in history
from the University of Melbourne and a B.Th. in New Testament from the
United Faculty of Theology in Melbourne. He is currently a candidate
for a Ph.D. in art history, also from the University of Melbourne.
Peter is married to Robyn Whitaker, an ordained minister in the Uniting
Church of Australia and a Ph.D. student at the University of Chicago
Divinity School.
Peter succeeds the Rev. Dr. Stephen L. White, who served with
distinction as ECP's chaplain from 2000 to 2008. Steve, Andrea, and
Aidan are moving this month to Hancock, Massachusetts, and our warmest
wishes and great affection go with them.
Peter and Robyn will be moving to Procter House in August and are
greatly looking forward to becoming an integral part of our community.
Peter can be contacted during the summer at french.peter@sbcglobal.net
. Please join us in welcoming Peter
and Robyn to Princeton and to ECP.

Subject: [DioNJ] Belize flood relief
Message-ID: <484ED19A.6050800@newjersey.anglican.org>
The following appeal was received from the Diocese of Belize last week.
If you are interested in donating to flood relief, please make your
check payable to the Diocese of New Jersey, with "Belize Flood Relief"
on the memo line, and mail to: The Diocese of New Jersey, Attn. Emanuel
Strauss, 808 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618. Thank you.
To Clergy, members and friends of our Diocese:
As you are aware our country and, in particular, those in the south,
were adversely affected by the recent Tropical Storm Arthur. The heavy
rains of the storm have already caused tremendous flooding in several
communities and the persistent rising waters continue to pose a serious
threat to these and other communities.
(/Pictures from channel 7 News Belize website /www.7newsbelize.com
)
We have been in communications with Canon Valentine and he has informed
us of the following:
a) Our families appear to be doing well at the moment.
b) There is a desperate need for water in most of the communities.
We are preparing to send a sum of money to assist in this regard.
c) Of secondary urgency will be food items and clothing which,
however, are being distributed at the moment by various agencies.
d) The communities of Mullins River (in particular) and Sittee
River also need much help. We are trying to make contact with
individuals in these areas.
e) We are also trying to get further updates from the folks in
Gales Point.
f) The Bishop has checked and at the moment there is very little
wisdom in actually going down to the area as access to many of the
affected areas is still very limited. However, we have been in contact
with individuals who have helped in providing useful information on the
issues at hand.
g) We are appealing for assistance from our members and friends
local and abroad.
? Water
? Food Items
? Clothes
? Blankets
? Toiletries
Of course, monetary donations will be best as this will enable us to be
more targeted in our outreach and assistance. We are hoping to make a
trip to some of the affected areas by week's end for a preliminary
assessment of how we can best assist in the recovery efforts.
For this first visit we will be taking contributions of food stuff only,
chiefly canned goods. If you wish to make contributions of canned goods
please have them delivered at the diocesan office by Thursday or Friday
of this week.
Again, thanks and God's richest blessings.

Subject: [DioNJ] Where are the young adults?
Message-ID: <4852723D.2090400@newjersey.anglican.org>
Where are the young adults? I am writing to ask for your help in
identifying young adults (age 18-30) and invite them more fully into the
mission and ministries of the church.
I am grateful that this survey project is being led by two young adult
leaders of our Church: Jesse Davis (St. Andrew?s, New Providence) and Ann
Urinoski (Church of the Holy Cross, North Plainfield), who are serving as
interns with the Episcopal Campus Ministry at Rutgers through the Summer
Internship Program sponsored by the Diocese of New Jersey.
Ann and Jesse will survey every congregation in our diocese to identify
young adults (ages 18-30); collect their contact information; reach out to
them by listening to what they may have to say about God, the Church and
their lives; engage them about ways they might be more fully involved in
the life and leadership of the Church; and if they are enrolled in
college, refer them to a campus ministry or parish church close to their
campus.
Please give them your cooperation and encouragement. They will be
reaching out to you, but you may contact them by e-mail at
njyoungadults@gmail.com
and by telephone at Canterbury House:
(732) 932-1278.
(To learn more about the Summer Internship Program of the Diocese of New
Jersey--an annual opportunity that allows young adults to explore the
priesthood through a significant experience of Christian mission--please
contact its director, the Reverend Ron Pollock, rector of St. John's
Episcopal Church in Somerville: frronpollock1@verizon.net.)
Glory to God whose power working in us, can do infinitely more than we can
ask or imagine: Glory to God from generation to generation in the Church,
and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever.

Message-ID: <48569134.8020703@newjersey.anglican.org>
*20^th Annual Diocesan Youth Choir Week*
Sunday July 27, 2008 to Friday August 1, 2008
Cape May New Jersey
Elisabeth Sullivan, Director
For an extra-ordinary week of music making, fun, and fellowship, come to
the 20^th Annual Diocesan Youth Choir Week. Sponsored by the Church of
the Advent Cape May and The Diocese of New Jersey, this week offers
young people the opportunity to sing, play, and worship together.
*The choristers sing quality sacred repertoire from many style periods.*
The music is varied and challenging. Rehearsals include proper
breathing and singing techniques. There is the opportunity to ring hand
chimes and/or play an instrument the chorister is studying.
*They worship together.*
The week begins with Evensong (Sunday 5PM) and ends with a concert as
part of a morning service Friday (10:30 AM). Each day the singers,
counselors, and chaperones gather to sing Compline, and on the last
evening, there is a celebration of the Holy Eucharist either on the
beach or in the church.
*They have fun!*
When rehearsals end for the day, there are trips to the beach, a picnic
in the County Park, a treasure hunt, and a Pizza Party followed by a
talent show put together by the choristers and counselors.
*Who can come?*
Singers from ages 11 to 17 and boys with changing voices. Reading music
is not a requirement! Every year, we have choristers returning to join
in the fun, and some have become counselors and chaperones!!!
*Counselors and Chaperones*
Singers who are entering the 12^th grade may apply to be counselors (see
separate application). Adult chaperones are indispensable!! The
Diocesan Youth Choir Week depends on volunteer adult chaperones who love
to work with groups of young people. Chaperones need not be musicians,
however, there are opportunities for musical chaperones to assist in the
music making. If your church is planning to send a chorister, please
consider sending a chaperone as well. Chaperones must be at least 21
years of age.
The fee for choristers is $300.00; partial scholarships are available.
The fee for counselors is $250.00. Choristers are housed a The Holiday
house of the Girls' Friendly Society in Cape May. An application is
enclosed which must be returned by *June 25, 2008 with a non-refundable
application fee of $50.00 *which is applied to the tuition costs.
*For more information, contact Wade Cooper at 609-884-3065 (Church of

Subject: [DioNJ] Prayers for healing needed
Message-ID: <48596464.1080006@newjersey.anglican.org>
June 18, 2008
Dear Friends in Christ,
I write to ask for your continuing prayers for healing for Canon Cynthia
McFarland, our Director of Communications.
Canon McFarland successfully battled Non Hodgkin Lymphoma two years ago
and had achieved, we hoped, a permanent remission. A recent MRI has
revealed, however, a small spot on her pelvic bone. A biopsy showed that
it is a return of Lymphoma.
Cynthia's oncologist, supported by other expert opinion, is advising her
to undergo an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant (ASCT). She has agreed to
do this. The procedure will be scheduled later this summer. It will
require her to spend from four to six weeks in hospital and then roughly
100 days under "house arrest" until her new immune system takes hold.
"It's an astonishing procedure and a potentially curative one, if
somewhat scary." Cynthia wrote recently. "My doctors think that it's by
far the best option for me at this time."
I have spoken with Cynthia and have assured her that she may continue an
unpaid leave from her position as Director of Communications. Once she
completes this treatment and her recovery we will determine how she may
continue her ministry on the staff. I hope she will continue and that we
may have the continued benefit of her gifts and dedication.
Our sister Cynthia has been through great struggles and trials and
suffered many losses in recent years. Her faith, however, is unshakeable
and her strength is undiminished. She knows the Lord and puts her trust
in Him. Let us continue to support her with our love and prayers and
thus bear witness that our God is good, all the time.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
The Rt. Rev. George E. Councell
