Episcopal
Youth Event (EYE) 2005
Bishop's Blog:
Friday, July 29
This
morning our New Jersey representatives
had the opportunity to have a breakfast
conversation with Bishop Gene Robinson
of New Hampshire. He shared his spiritual
journey and his reflections on his
vocation, his consecration, and the
ongoing discussions in the Anglican
Communion. He answered questions from
our young people and graciously posed
for photos with our group.
Our
Morning Program featured our Presiding
Bishop's meditation on 'Spirit.' This
was followed by a biblical presentation
by storyteller Kathy Hood Carter. With
power and creativity, she presented the
story of Pentecost and other Bible passages,
along with illustrative stories.
This
afternoon I attended a workshop led by
Bishop Paul Marshall and his wife Diana
Marshall: 'After the War: A New
Generation Builds a New Sudan.' Through
digital slides and film and recordings,
they took us along with them on their
visit to the Diocese of Kajo-Kaji, in
the southern Sudan. We heard about some
of the ravages of 50 years of war and
of the hope and witness of the Anglican
presence in this time of rebuilding.
This
evening several other bishops (including
our Presiding Bishop!) and I each took
our turn sitting on a platform over a
dunk tank. The name on the side read,
'Easy Dunker.' It was true. I was dunked
many times by young people. Kep Short
tried and failed. Debi Clarke dunked
me, with a single toss. I
really love this Church.
