Episcopal
Youth Event (EYE) 2005:
Bishop's Blog:
Tuesday, July 26
I
woke up at about 1 o'clock this morning.
I remembered that Canon Kep Short, Director
of Youth Ministry, and the group of young
people and advisors representing the
Diocese of New Jersey, together with
the group from the Diocese of Newark,
were just setting out at that hour for
a 12-hour bus trip from Trenton to EYE
2005, in Berea, Kentucky. I prayed for
them and for safe travel. I went back
to sleep.
When
I drove into the long-term economy parking
lot at Newark Liberty Airport this afternoon,
it was 103 degrees. Good preparation
for the weather in Kentucky in late July?

Gayle Harris of Massachusetts,
with a young EYE participant. |
Arrived
at Lexington Airport about an hour late.
A young EYE staffer named Justin, from
Minneapolis — about to begin his
studies at Church Divinity School of
the Pacific in Berkeley, California — picked
me up and drove me to Berea.
There
are 55 bishops in attendance among the
1500 or so gathered for the Episcopal
Youth Event, 2005. In 2002 (EYE is held
once, every three years) there were 18
bishops who took part. This group of
55 is greater than the sum total of all
the bishops in attendance at all previous
EYEs.
