WILLIAM
EARL PERRY: A RETROSPECIVE

William
Earl Perry was born on August 19, 1912, the
only son of William and Sophie Perry. He
spent his formative years in the Philadelphia
area and graduated from Northeast High School
as an honors student and accomplished clarinetist
and saxophonist. William then earned a bachelors
degree from the University of Pennsylvania
and completed his post-graduate work at Temple
University, receiving a M.Ed in Psychology,
Counseling, and School Administration. Upon
completion of his education, he was employed
by the School District of Philadelphia as
a teacher and over the course of 35 years
held positions of increasing responsibility.
He retired as a Vice-Principal from John
Bartram High School in 1982.
William
became interested in photography as a young
child. He was an avid reader and would spend
hours studying pictures in magazines and
trying to draw them. Later, he received a
Kodak folding camera and a banjo. These special
gifts unlocked the two passions of his life,
photography and music and he became proficient
in both. William was an active member of
the Philadelphia Lens Guild where he honed
his craft in composition and print development.
As a member of the Philadelphia Lens Guild
he competed in exhibitions, winning numerous
awards. He also became a professional wedding
photographer. His cameras of choice were
Konica and Hasselblad.
William
retired from photography 15 years ago due
to failing vision. His other interests include
Spanish Culture, and he speaks fluent Spanish.
He is still passionate about music and is
an audiophile. William resides in Berlin,
New Jersey with his wife of 52 years, Ruth
Ann Woodland Perry. They have one daughter,
Ruth, a physician, and two grand-daughters,
Kendall Taylor Walton, age 16 and Courtney
Eleanora Walton, age 14.
