We have good news to share!

For over seventy years, the William Alexander Procter Foundation has pursued a mission of supporting the spiritual formation of young adults in higher education for ministry and leadership in the Church.

The Procter Foundation maintains two home-like centers for Episcopal campus ministry: Procter House, at 53 University Place on the campus of Princeton University, and Canterbury House, at 5 Mine Street on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University.

Procter selects the chaplains: missionary priests with a passion for sharing the Gospel with young adults through worship, prayer, Bible study, theological reflection, fellowship, and service to the world in the name of Jesus Christ.

How it all began — and how it continues
The Procter Foundation was founded by Paul Mathews (Bishop of New Jersey from 1915 to 1937) and his wife Elsie Procter Matthews, a granddaughter of the founder of Procter & Gamble. They were most active in supporting ministry with students at Princeton University, Bishop Matthew's alma mater.

With a gift of Procter & Gamble stock from William Cooper Procter, Bishop Paul Matthewsa graduate of Princeton University, a new fund was named to honor the memory of Procter's father, William Alexander, a past president of Procter & Gamble. In 1938, the foundation was chartered by the State of New Jersey as a private non-proft corporation to support college and university chaplaincies in the Diocese of New Jersey.

The Bishop of New Jersey serves ex officio as president of the Board and chairs the meetings of the Trustees, who meet three times per year to receive reports from the Chaplains and to exercise oversight of the campus ministries and stewardship of the Foundations' endowment (which consists of shares in the Diocesan Investment Trust).

Trustees are selected from alumni of Princeton and Rutgers and from at large.

Sustain the chaplaincies and build for the future
Your gift to Procter is essential to our ability to minister to young adults through the Chaplaincies. There are many ways to give. We hope you will choose one that is meaningful to you. You can

• Support Chaplaincies through Annual Giving The Chaplaincies we support receive no funds from the universities they serve. Our endowment provides a solid foundation, but it can't keep up with the cost of maintaining our properties, supporting the chaplains, and funding programs for students. We need your help through annual contributions to meet the operating budgets for the Chaplaincies.

• Make a Gift that Benefits You and Procter through Gift Planning Planned gifts and bequests help to secure a strong future for Procter. Gifts such as trusts and annuities strengthen the Foundation and provide income to you or your family. You can benefit the Procter Foundation through your will.

• Honor a Loved One through an In Memoriam Gift Whether through Annual Giving or a named fund, an In Memoriam gift is a meaningful way to honor a friend or family member.Young adult Episcopalians at college

• Support a Chaplaincy or Program that's Important to You The Chaplaincies at Princeton and Rutgers depend on the support of Procter Friends for funding programs such as weekly worship, prayer, Bible study, theological book clubs, guest presenters, annual retreats, and fellowship meals.
